SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 Tracker | Thatcham S5 Fitted UK

£430.00

The SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 is a Thatcham S5 tested tracking system supplied with two Bluetooth Driver Detection cards included as standard. The cards are credit-card sized and rechargeable, so they live in a wallet or purse — away from your keys, which is precisely the point. The tracker checks for an authorised card each time the vehicle moves, and Global Telemetrics contact you if none is present. Professionally fitted at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

  • Two Driver Detection cards included – Supplied in the box, not charged as an extra. This is what the “T2” designation means.
  • Thatcham S5 tested – Meets the Thatcham S5 criteria, which require driver recognition alongside monitored tracking.
  • Rechargeable, wallet-sized cards – Bluetooth cards you keep separately from your keys, so a stolen key alone won’t move the vehicle unnoticed.
  • 24/7 Global Telemetrics monitoring – In-house Secure Control Centre with UK and European coverage and a dedicated repatriation network.
  • Alerts on unrecognised movement – If the vehicle travels without an authorised card in range, the control centre contacts you.
  • D-iD app also available – Use your smartphone as an additional driver ID alongside the cards if you prefer.
  • 3 year warranty and transferable – Extendable up to 12 years, and the unit can be moved to your next vehicle.

SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide

The SmarTrack S5  D-iD T2 is a stolen vehicle tracking system tested to the Thatcham S5 standard and supplied with two Bluetooth Driver Detection cards included as standard. It operates on GPS and GLONASS positioning with GPRS and GSM communication, is monitored 24/7 by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, and satisfies the driver recognition requirement that Thatcham S5 demands. Where the standard S5 D-iD relies on your phone, the T2 puts a physical card in your wallet — and includes two of them in the price. Safe & Sound Mobile supply the system and fit it at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

What does “T2” actually mean?

It refers to the driver detection hardware supplied with the tracker. The T2 version includes two Bluetooth Driver Detection cards in the box, whereas the standard S5 D-iD is sold as a phone-app system with cards available as a paid add-on. Same underlying S5 tracker, different driver ID method included. The D-iD app can still be used alongside your cards if you want both.

Is the SmarTrack S5 Tracker D-iD T2 Right for You?

Thatcham S5 requires a way of confirming an authorised driver is present, and there are two practical ways to do it: a card you carry, or an app on your phone. The T2 is for people who would rather carry the card. That preference is more common than you might expect — a card in a wallet needs no charge overnight, no operating system update and no signal, and it never gets left on a bedside table because you were charging it.

It suits owners of prestige, performance and keyless vehicles where an insurer has specified S5, and it is particularly good for two-driver households: two cards are supplied, so both drivers are covered from day one without buying anything extra. It also works well for anyone who does not want a security app running in the background on their phone.

Consider something else if the following apply. If you would genuinely rather use your phone and do not need cards, the standard SmarTrack D-iD S5 is a lower-cost route to the same Thatcham category. If your insurer has only asked for a Thatcham S7 tracker, an S7 device will meet that requirement more cheaply. And if you want the engine physically prevented from starting without your card present, that is automatic immobilisation — you need the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB, not this product.

What Is Included?

What this system does not do

We would rather you knew before ordering than afterwards. As supplied, this device does not provide:

  • Automatic immobilisation — it will not prevent a thief starting or driving the vehicle
  • Remote immobilisation as standard, though it may be available as an option requested before installation
  • Any physical barrier to theft — S5 is a detection and recovery category, not a prevention one

Carrying a Driver Detection card means the control centre learns quickly that the wrong person is driving. It does not stop them driving. For a system that prevents the engine starting without your card, ask us about the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB on 01245 921133.

SmarTrack S5 Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham Research publishes the standards UK insurers use to classify aftermarket vehicle security. For stolen vehicle tracking there are two current categories. S7 covers monitored tracking systems that report a vehicle’s position to a control centre. S5 covers everything S7 does and adds a mandatory requirement: the system must include a means of verifying that the driver is an authorised user.

That addition is what makes S5 useful against modern theft methods. If your vehicle is taken overnight using a cloned or relayed key, an S7 tracker knows nothing is wrong until you report it — potentially hours later. An S5 system flags the discrepancy the moment the vehicle moves without an authorised card in proximity, and the control centre starts contacting you straight away.

This is precisely why the cards are designed to live in a wallet rather than on a keyring. If the card sits next to the keys, a thief who takes both defeats the driver recognition entirely. Kept separately, the card is the thing they cannot easily get hold of — which is the whole security argument for the T2 version.

Before you order: tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Some policies name a specific Thatcham category, some require an approved installer, and some ask for an installation certificate. A monitoring subscription must also be kept active for the tracking and driver recognition service to operate. If you are unsure what has been asked of you, call us on 01245 921133 and we will help you match the requirement to the right product.

How the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 Works

Installation and pairing. Our engineer hard-wires the unit into the vehicle in a concealed position, then pairs both Driver Detection cards to that specific tracker. Cards are registered to your vehicle, so a card from another SmarTrack system will not satisfy your tracker’s driver recognition.

Everyday driving. You carry a card in your wallet or purse. When you drive, the tracker detects it over Bluetooth, recognises an authorised driver and no alert is raised. There is nothing to press, swipe or hold against a reader — the recognition is passive and you will not notice it happening.

When no authorised card is present. If the vehicle is driven without a registered card in proximity, the system flags a driver identification discrepancy and the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre is alerted. They will contact you to establish whether the vehicle is being used with your permission. This is the mechanism that catches a key theft or relay attack while it is happening.

Tow-away and tampering. The tracker also alerts on movement without the ignition being used, so a vehicle winched onto a flatbed is flagged just as a driven one is. It reports wiring interference and battery disconnection, and the internal backup battery means cutting the vehicle’s power does not silence the unit.

Confirmed theft. If you confirm the vehicle has been taken, the Secure Control Centre tracks it live and works with local and national police forces to recover it. Where a vehicle has been moved abroad, Global Telemetrics can call on independent repatriation investigators with local knowledge in that country.

Monitoring, App and Subscription

Monitoring

Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own in-house Secure Control Centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with coverage across the UK and Europe. The device carries a multi-network roaming SIM so it connects through whichever network is strongest rather than being tied to a single operator.

Alerts the control centre acts on include driver identification failures, movement without the ignition being used, geofence breaches, wiring tampering, battery disconnection, low battery voltage, and an aftermarket alarm sounding where one has been connected. In each case the team attempts to reach you first to establish whether the vehicle is safe before escalating.

App

The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android shows up-to-date location information for your vehicle at any time, and pairs with a full secure online account accessible from any web browser.

The account carries current and historical locations and complete journey records, multiple geofences with alerts, data and scheduled reports, business and private mileage separation, odometer readings, multiple logins with access control, and MoT and service reminders. Note the distinction on this version: your driver ID is the physical card, not the app — the app is for viewing your vehicle. If you would also like your phone to act as a driver ID via D-iD, tell us and we will set that up alongside your cards.

Subscription

A subscription is required for the tracking, monitoring and driver recognition service to operate, and it is not included in the purchase price of the device, cards and installation. It is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics once your system is installed and activated, not to Safe & Sound Mobile.

Subscription OptionPrice
Direct Debit£13.99
1 year£159.00
2 years£269.00
3 years£369.00
Duration of vehicle ownership£649.00

Renewal and transfer: fixed-term subscriptions must be renewed at the end of the term for monitoring to continue. Direct Debit subscriptions carry a minimum term — confirm the current term with SmarTrack when setting yours up.

The duration of vehicle ownership option covers you for as long as you own that vehicle from the date of installation. It is transferable once only, within the first 12 months; after that period a new subscription is required. Terms and conditions apply to all subscription options.

2

Arrange Your Installation

Our team contacts you to book an appointment that suits your schedule, and confirms your vehicle’s make, model and year in advance.

3

We Come to Your Vehicle

A Safe & Sound Mobile engineer attends your home, workplace or another agreed location anywhere on the UK mainland. No workshop visit and no lost day.

4

Professional Installation

The unit is fitted discreetly and wired into the vehicle, then configured. Both Driver Detection cards are paired to your tracker and tested against the vehicle before the engineer leaves.

5

Setup and Handover

We activate the system, set up your Global Telemetrics account and app, and explain how the cards behave day to day — including how to recharge them and why they should be kept away from your keys. You receive your installation documentation and our aftercare contact details before we leave.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?

Safe & Sound Mobile specialise in vehicle security installation, and an S5 system involves more than wiring a box in. Both cards need pairing and testing, and the customer needs to understand clearly what happens when the system does and does not detect them — otherwise the first genuine alert arrives as an unwelcome surprise.

We fit across UK mainland postcodes at your home or workplace, so there is no workshop visit. We also work with multiple leading tracker brands rather than a single manufacturer, which means if the card-based T2 is not right for how you actually use your vehicle — some people genuinely prefer the phone app — we will say so before you order rather than after.

Beyond the fitting, we will explain the Thatcham categories in plain terms, be clear about what the subscription costs and covers before you commit, set up your account and app on the day, and remain contactable afterwards. Call us on 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2

What is the difference between the T2 and the standard D-iD S5?

The tracker is the same; the driver recognition supplied with it differs. The SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 includes two Bluetooth Driver Detection cards in the price, while the standard D-iD S5 is sold as a smartphone-app system with cards available as a paid extra. Choose the T2 if you would rather carry a card than rely on your phone, or if two drivers need covering from the outset.

Is the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 accepted by my insurer?

It is tested to the Thatcham S5 standard, the higher of the two tracking categories and the one specified for most higher-value and keyless vehicles. However, tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given device.

Is installation included with the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2?

Yes. The price includes professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer at your home or workplace through our nationwide mobile fitting service across UK mainland postcodes. Activation, account setup, pairing and testing of both Driver Detection cards, a handover demonstration and your installation documentation are all included.

Does the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 require a subscription?

Yes. Tracking, 24/7 monitoring and driver recognition only operate with an active subscription, paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics after installation and separate from the purchase price. Options are Direct Debit at £13.99, one year at £159, two years at £269, three years at £369, or duration of ownership at £649.

What tracker category is the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2?

Thatcham S5, the higher of the two current stolen vehicle tracking categories. S5 requires driver recognition in addition to monitored tracking, which the two included Bluetooth cards provide. S5 is a detection and recovery standard — it does not require, and this device does not include, automatic immobilisation.

Does the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 have a mobile app?

Yes. The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android shows up-to-date vehicle location and pairs with a full online account offering journey history, multiple geofences, mileage records and reports. Your driver ID on this version is the physical card, though the D-iD app can also be enabled as an additional driver ID if you would like it.

Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2?

We offer nationwide mobile installation across UK mainland postcodes, fitting at your home, workplace or another suitable agreed location. We also fit at our Chelmsford workshop if you prefer to bring the vehicle to us. Call 01245 921133 to confirm coverage for your postcode.

Do the Driver Detection cards need charging?

Yes. The Bluetooth cards are rechargeable, so they need topping up periodically rather than having a battery replaced. We will show you how on the day. Keep both cards away from your vehicle keys — a card sitting on the same keyring defeats the purpose, because a thief taking your keys would take your driver ID with them.

Book Your SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 Nationwide Installation

The SmarTrack S5 D-iD T2 is a Thatcham S5 tested tracking system supplied with two Bluetooth Driver Detection cards included, monitored 24/7 by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre. The driver recognition is what separates S5 from S7 — the control centre is alerted when the vehicle moves without an authorised card in proximity, rather than waiting for you to notice it has gone.

Alongside that sits a full online account with journey history and multiple geofences, movement alerts covering tow-away theft, tamper and battery monitoring with internal backup, and a transferable unit backed by a three year warranty extendable to twelve. Two cards in the price means two drivers covered from day one. Safe & Sound Mobile supply, fit, pair, activate and set it all up at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.
