£340.00

The SmarTrack D-iD S5 Tracker is a Thatcham S5 tested tracking system that uses your smartphone as your driver ID instead of a physical tag. It delivers the driver recognition S5 requires without anything extra to carry, remember or lose. Professionally fitted at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

  • Thatcham S5 tested – Listed by SmarTrack as Thatcham Category S5 Security Certified TSC032.

SmarTrack D-iD S5 Tracker – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide

The SmarTrack D-iD S5 Tracker is a stolen vehicle tracking system tested to the Thatcham S5 standard, using SmarTrack’s D-iD™ technology to turn your smartphone into your driver identification. It operates on GPS and GLONASS positioning with GPRS and GSM communication, is monitored 24/7 by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, and satisfies the driver recognition element that S5 requires — without a fob, card or tag to carry. Safe & Sound Mobile supply the system and fit it at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

Is the D-iD S5 Tracker Right for You?

The obvious appeal is practical. Every S5 tracker needs some way of confirming an authorised driver is present, and traditionally that has meant a card in your wallet or a tag on your keys. Both work, but both can be forgotten, left in the car overnight next to the keys — which rather defeats the purpose — or lost entirely. Your phone is the one thing you reliably have on you.

This system suits owners of higher-value and higher-risk vehicles whose insurer has specified Thatcham S5, and particularly households where more than one person drives the car, since each authorised driver simply registers their own phone rather than needing another card issued. It is equally well suited to company vehicles where drivers change and reissuing physical tags becomes an administrative chore.

Consider a different product if any of these apply. If you would rather not rely on a phone — or you regularly let the battery run flat — physical Driver Detection cards or tags are available for this same device and may suit you better. If your insurer has only asked for a Thatcham S7 tracker, an S7 device will meet that requirement at lower cost. And if what you actually want is the vehicle physically prevented from starting without your tag present, that is automatic immobilisation and you need the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB instead.

What Is Included?

  • SmarTrack S5 tracking unit with D-iD driver recognition
  • Professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer
  • Nationwide mobile fitting at your home or workplace across UK mainland postcodes
  • Discreet siting and concealment of the unit

What this system does not do

We would rather you knew before ordering than afterwards. As supplied, this device does not provide:

  • Automatic immobilisation — it will not prevent a thief starting or driving the vehicle
  • Remote immobilisation as standard, though it may be available as an option requested before installation
  • Any physical barrier to theft — S5 is a detection and recovery category, not a prevention one

Driver recognition means the control centre knows quickly that something is wrong, not that the vehicle cannot be taken. For a system that stops the engine starting without your tag, ask us about the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB on 01245 921133.

SmarTrack S5 Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham Research publishes the standards UK insurers use to classify aftermarket vehicle security. For stolen vehicle tracking there are two current categories. S7 covers monitored tracking systems that report a vehicle’s position to a control centre. S5 covers everything S7 does and adds a mandatory requirement: the system must include a means of verifying that the driver is an authorised user.

That single addition changes the response time considerably. An S7 tracker tells the monitoring centre where your vehicle is; an S5 tracker also tells them whether the right person is driving it. If your car is taken with cloned keys while you are asleep, an S7 system will not know anything is wrong until you report it. An S5 system flags the discrepancy the moment the vehicle moves without an authorised driver present.

This is why insurers specify S5 on prestige, performance and keyless vehicles — the ones targeted by organised theft rather than opportunists. The D-iD S5 satisfies that driver recognition requirement using your smartphone, and is listed by SmarTrack as Thatcham Category S5 Security Certified TSC032.

Before you order: tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Some policies name a specific Thatcham category, some require an approved installer, and some ask for an installation certificate. A monitoring subscription must also be kept active for the tracking and driver recognition service to operate. If you are unsure what has been asked of you, call us on 01245 921133 and we will help you match the requirement to the right product.

How the D-iD S5 Tracker Works

Installation and pairing. Our engineer hard-wires the unit into the vehicle in a concealed position, then installs and pairs the D-iD app on your phone and registers it to that vehicle. Where more than one person drives, each authorised driver’s phone is registered during setup — tell us how many at the time of booking.

Everyday driving. You do nothing. When you get in with your phone, the tracker recognises it as an authorised driver and the journey proceeds normally. There is no code, no button and no card to remember. If you would like confirmation the system is working, you can opt to receive a push notification every time the vehicle is started.

When an unrecognised driver moves the vehicle. If the car travels without an authorised phone detected inside it, the system flags a driver identification discrepancy. Global Telemetrics will then endeavour to contact the registered keeper to establish whether the vehicle is safe. This is the mechanism that catches a key-cloning or relay theft while it is happening rather than the following morning.

Tow-away and tampering. The tracker also alerts on movement without the ignition being used, so a vehicle lifted onto a flatbed is flagged just as a driven one would be. The internal backup battery means cutting the vehicle’s power does not silence it, and that disconnection generates its own alert.

Confirmed theft. If you confirm the vehicle has been taken, the Secure Control Centre tracks it live and works with local and national police forces to recover it. You can also report unauthorised movement directly from within the D-iD app. Where a vehicle has been moved abroad, Global Telemetrics can call on independent repatriation investigators with local knowledge.

Monitoring, App and Subscription

Monitoring

Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own in-house Secure Control Centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with coverage across the UK and Europe. The device carries a multi-network roaming SIM so it connects through whichever network is strongest rather than being tied to a single operator.

Alerts the control centre acts on include driver identification failures, movement without the ignition being used, geofence breaches, battery disconnection and anti-tamper events, low battery voltage, and an aftermarket alarm sounding where one has been connected. In each case the team attempts to reach you first to establish whether the vehicle is safe before escalating.

App

There are two apps and it is worth understanding the difference. The D-iD app is your driver identification — it runs in the background and is what the tracker looks for when the vehicle moves. The Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android is where you view your vehicle’s location.

Alongside those sits a full secure online account accessible from any web browser, carrying current and historical locations and complete journey records, multiple geofences with alerts, data and scheduled reports, business and private mileage separation, odometer and driving style data, multiple logins with access control, and MoT and service reminders. The D-iD app itself also lets you opt into a push notification each time the vehicle is started and report unauthorised movement directly.

Subscription

A subscription is required for the tracking, monitoring and driver recognition service to operate, and it is not included in the purchase price of the device and installation. It is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics once your system is installed and activated, not to Safe & Sound Mobile.

Subscription OptionPrice
Direct Debit£13.99
1 year£159.00
2 years£269.00
3 years£369.00
Duration of vehicle ownership£649.00

Renewal and transfer: fixed-term subscriptions must be renewed at the end of the term for monitoring to continue. Direct Debit subscriptions carry a minimum term — confirm the current term with SmarTrack when setting yours up.

The duration of vehicle ownership option covers you for as long as you own that vehicle from the date of installation. It is transferable once only, within the first 12 months; after that period a new subscription is required. Terms and conditions apply to all subscription options.

How Nationwide Mobile Installation Works

1

Order Your Tracker

Choose the D-iD S5 Tracker and place your order. Let us know if you would also like physical Driver Detection cards or tags, or want to discuss the remote immobilisation option.

2

Arrange Your Installation

Our team contacts you to book an appointment that suits your schedule, and confirms your vehicle details and how many drivers’ phones need registering.

3

We Come to Your Vehicle

A Safe & Sound Mobile engineer attends your home, workplace or another agreed location anywhere on the UK mainland. No workshop visit and no lost day.

4

Professional Installation

The unit is fitted discreetly and wired into the vehicle, then configured. Bring your phone — the D-iD app is installed and paired as part of the fit, and tested before the engineer leaves.

5

Setup and Handover

We activate the system, set up your Global Telemetrics account, register each authorised driver’s phone, and walk you through how driver recognition behaves day to day. You receive your installation documentation and our aftercare contact details before we leave.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?

Safe & Sound Mobile specialise in vehicle security installation, and an S5 system involves more than wiring a box in. Driver recognition has to be set up correctly, every authorised phone registered, and the customer shown clearly what happens when the system does and does not detect them — otherwise the first real alert comes as a surprise.

We fit across UK mainland postcodes at your home or workplace, so there is no workshop visit and no lost day. We work with multiple leading tracker brands rather than a single manufacturer, so if D-iD is not right for how you actually use your vehicle — and for some people a physical card genuinely suits better — we will say so before you order rather than after.

Beyond fitting, we will explain the Thatcham categories in plain terms, be clear about what the subscription costs and covers before you commit, set up your apps and account on the day, and remain contactable afterwards. Call us on 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the D-iD S5 Tracker

Is the D-iD S5 Tracker accepted by my insurer?

It is tested to the Thatcham S5 standard and listed by SmarTrack as Security Certified TSC032, which is the higher of the two tracking categories and the one specified for most higher-value vehicles. However, tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given device.

Is installation included with the D-iD S5 Tracker?

Yes. The price includes professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer, carried out at your home or workplace through our nationwide mobile fitting service across UK mainland postcodes. Activation, account setup, D-iD app pairing, a handover demonstration and your installation documentation are all included.

Does the D-iD S5 Tracker require a subscription?

Yes. Tracking, 24/7 monitoring and driver recognition only operate with an active subscription, paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics after installation and separate from the purchase price. Options are Direct Debit at £13.99, one year at £159, two years at £269, three years at £369, or duration of ownership at £649.

What tracker category is the D-iD S5 Tracker?

Thatcham S5, the higher of the two current stolen vehicle tracking categories. S5 requires driver recognition in addition to monitored tracking, and the D-iD app provides that using your smartphone. Note that S5 is a detection and recovery standard — it does not require, and this device does not include, automatic immobilisation.

Does the D-iD S5 Tracker have a mobile app?

It uses two. The D-iD app is your driver identification and runs in the background so the tracker can recognise you. The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android is where you view your vehicle’s location, and it pairs with a full online account offering journey history, geofences, mileage records and reports.

Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the D-iD S5 Tracker?

We offer nationwide mobile installation across UK mainland postcodes, fitting at your home, workplace or another suitable agreed location. We also fit at our Chelmsford workshop if you prefer to bring the vehicle to us. Call 01245 921133 to confirm coverage for your postcode.

What happens if my phone battery dies or I leave it at home?

The vehicle will still start and drive normally — D-iD is a recognition system, not an immobiliser. What happens is that the tracker will not detect an authorised driver, so Global Telemetrics will attempt to contact you to check the vehicle is safe. It is a phone call to confirm all is well rather than anything that strands you, but if you often run your battery flat, physical Driver Detection cards may suit you better.

Can I have Driver Detection cards or tags instead of the app?

Yes. SmarTrack support driver recognition on S5 devices through either the D-iD mobile app or physical Driver Detection cards and tags, and cards or tags can be supplied instead of the app or alongside it. Some households prefer a mix — the app for the main driver, a card for an occasional one. Mention it when you order and we will arrange it.

Book Your D-iD S5 Tracker Nationwide Installation

The SmarTrack D-iD S5 Tracker is a Thatcham S5 tested tracking system with 24/7 Global Telemetrics monitoring, and it uses your smartphone as your driver ID rather than a fob you have to remember. That driver recognition is what separates S5 from S7 — the control centre is alerted when the vehicle moves without an authorised driver present, rather than waiting for you to report it missing.

Alongside it sits a full online account with journey history and multiple geofences, movement alerts covering tow-away theft, battery and anti-tamper monitoring, and a transferable unit backed by a three year warranty extendable to twelve. Physical Driver Detection cards remain available if you would rather not rely on a phone. Safe & Sound Mobile supply, fit, activate and set it all up at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.
