Why choose the PowerBass XL-1240TD?
The XL-1240TD takes everything that makes the XL-1240T one of the best shallow subwoofers in its class — the 140 oz motor, the flat injection-moulded cone, the composite Poly/Glass Fibre basket — and adds a second 4-ohm voice coil. That single addition transforms how the driver integrates with an amplifier. Instead of being locked to a fixed 4-ohm load, you choose: wire in parallel for a 2Ω load and extract maximum wattage from a high-current mono amp, or wire in series at 8Ω if your amplifier is bridged and prefers a more stable impedance. It’s the same outstanding shallow 12″ subwoofer, with options.
- Dual 4-ohm voice coils, two wiring options — parallel wiring gives a 2Ω load for maximum amplifier output; series wiring gives an 8Ω load for bridged channels and high-impedance amplifiers. One driver, genuine flexibility.
- Real 12″ bass in 3.8″ of depth — a larger cone area than any 10″ driver, reaching down to 33Hz, in a mounting depth that opens doors to under-seat enclosures, custom load floors, and van conversions.
- 140 oz motor for tight, controlled bass — the larger inverted ferrite magnet keeps the cone accurately controlled at high excursion, so bass stays defined even when you push the volume.
- Flat cone for a flat response — the proprietary single-piece injection-moulded polypropylene cone minimises colouration, producing natural, detailed low-end rather than one-note boom.
- Composite basket, no colouration — the non-resonant Poly/Glass Fibre turbine-style basket stays quiet under load, keeping the sound clean across the full volume range.
Dual voice coil — what it means for your installation
Choosing a DVC subwoofer is about more than wiring diagrams — it’s about giving yourself room to build the best possible system now and adapt it later. If you upgrade your amplifier down the line, the XL-1240TD’s dual coils mean you’re likely to stay compatible without changing the subwoofer. You can also run each coil from a separate amplifier channel, allowing a stereo-summed bass signal, or bridge two channels for more power into a single coil while keeping the other in reserve.
Not sure how to wire the XL-1240TD into your specific amplifier? The Safe and Sound team is happy to check your amp’s specifications and recommend the right configuration before you order. And if you’d rather have us handle the complete installation — enclosure build, wiring, and final tuning — our workshop does this regularly and can have your vehicle sounding right from the first play.

XL-1240TD vs XL-1240T — which one do you need?
Both drivers share the same 12″ shallow mount basket, flat cone, 140 oz magnet, mounting depth, and power rating. The only difference is in the voice coil — and that difference matters when it comes to pairing with an amplifier:
| Model | Voice Coil | Wiring Options | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| XL-1240T | Single 4-ohm | 4Ω only | Straightforward installs; amp rated at 4Ω |
| XL-1240TD | Dual 4-ohm | 2Ω or 8Ω | Maximum flexibility; bridged amps, high-current mono amps |
