The SmarTrack MotoTrack is a Thatcham S7 approved GPS tracking system built specifically for motorcycles. It combines GPS/GLONASS positioning with 24/7 monitoring by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, and alerts you if your bike is moved without the ignition being used — the way most bikes are actually stolen. Includes a full online account with journey history and geofences. Professionally fitted at your home, garage or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

  • Thatcham S7 approved – Tested to the Thatcham S7 standard for monitored stolen vehicle tracking.
  • Built for motorcycles – SmarTrack list the MotoTrack specifically for motorcycle installation.
  • Movement alerts without ignition – If your bike is lifted, pushed or wheeled away, the control centre is alerted and will contact you.
  • 24/7 Global Telemetrics monitoring – In-house Secure Control Centre with UK and European coverage and a dedicated repatriation network.
  • Internal battery backup – Keeps working even if the bike’s power supply is disconnected, and alerts you when it is.
  • Full online account and app – Live and historical locations, journeys, geofences and data reports via web and the free Global Telemetrics app.
  • 3 year warranty and transferable – Extendable up to 12 years, and the unit can be moved to your next bike.

Insurance Requirement

The MotoTrack is approved to the Thatcham S7 standard, the category most commonly specified for motorcycles. S7 replaced the older Category 6 classification, so a policy referring to “Cat 6” is usually asking for S7 — but tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering.

SmarTrack MotoTrack Thatcham S7 Tracker – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide

The SmarTrack MotoTrack — spelled MotoTrak by the manufacturer — is a stolen vehicle tracking system approved to the Thatcham S7 standard and designed specifically for motorcycles. It uses GPS and GLONASS positioning with GPRS and GSM communication, carries its own internal battery backup, and is monitored around the clock by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre. Crucially for a bike, it alerts the control centre when the machine is moved without the ignition being used. Safe & Sound Mobile supply the system and fit it at your home, garage or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.

Is the MotoTrack Right for You?

Motorcycles get stolen differently from cars. A bike rarely needs hot-wiring — two people, a van and a ramp will have it away in under a minute, with the ignition never touched. That is precisely the scenario the MotoTrack is built around: its movement alert triggers when the machine moves without the ignition being operated, so the control centre knows something is wrong while the bike is still being loaded rather than hours later when you next walk into the garage.

It suits anyone with a bike worth protecting — sports bikes, adventure and touring machines, modern classics, scooters kept on a driveway or street — and particularly riders whose insurer has asked for a Thatcham approved tracker. It is also a sensible choice if you store your bike over winter and want to be able to check on it from your phone without visiting the storage unit.

Where the MotoTrack is not the answer: it has no driver recognition and no immobilisation, so it is not a Thatcham S5 device. If your insurer has specified S5 on a high-value machine, you will need a different product. It is also a hardwired system requiring a connection to the bike’s electrics — if you need to protect something with no power source at all, such as a trailer or a machine in storage, ask us about the SmarTrack S7 Wireless instead.

What the MotoTrack does not do

We would rather you knew before ordering than afterwards. This device does not provide:

  • Driver recognition, driver detection cards or tags
  • Immobilisation of any kind, including remote immobilisation
  • Thatcham S5 category coverage

If your insurer has specified S5, or you want your bike physically prevented from starting, call us on 01245 921133 and we will talk you through the alternatives.

SmarTrack S7 Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham Research publishes the standards UK insurers use to classify aftermarket vehicle security. For stolen vehicle tracking there are two current categories. S7 covers monitored tracking systems that report a vehicle’s position to a control centre. S5 covers everything S7 does and adds a mandatory driver recognition element, so the system can also verify whether an authorised rider or driver is present.

S7 is the category most commonly specified for motorcycles, and it is what the majority of bike policies mean when they ask for a “Thatcham approved tracker”. You may still see older policy wording referring to Category 6 or “Cat 6” — that classification was superseded by S7, so a Cat 6 requirement is generally satisfied by an S7 device. If your paperwork says Cat 6, it is worth a quick call to your insurer to have them confirm S7 in writing.

The MotoTrack is approved to the S7 standard and is monitored 24/7 by SmarTrack’s in-house Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, the monitored element being central to what S7 requires. It has no driver recognition function, so it is not an S5 device and should not be ordered where S5 has been specified.

Before you order: tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Some policies name a specific Thatcham category, some require an approved installer, and some ask for an installation certificate. Note also that a monitoring subscription must be active for the tracking service to operate — a device without a live subscription is unlikely to satisfy any insurer condition. If you are unsure what has been asked of you, call us on 01245 921133 and we will help you match the requirement to the right product.

How the MotoTrack Tracker Works

Installation. Our engineer hard-wires the unit into the motorcycle’s electrical system and conceals it. Siting matters more on a bike than on a car — there is far less space to hide a unit, and it needs to be protected from water, heat and vibration while still receiving a clear satellite signal. This is the part that rewards an experienced installer.

Everyday riding. Once activated, the MotoTrack runs quietly in the background. There is nothing to arm, disarm or remember. It reports the bike’s position continuously and logs your journeys to your online account, which is useful for records as well as security.

If the bike is moved. This is where the device earns its keep. If your motorcycle moves without the ignition being operated — lifted into a van, wheeled off a driveway, pushed out of a garage — the tracker flags it and the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre is alerted. Staff then contact you to establish whether the movement was authorised.

Confirmed theft. If you confirm the bike has been taken, the control centre works with the police using live positioning to help locate it. Where a machine has been moved abroad, Global Telemetrics can call on a network of independent repatriation investigators with local knowledge in that country.

Power and tampering. The unit has an internal backup battery, so disconnecting the bike’s battery does not silence it — and that disconnection itself generates an alert. It also monitors battery voltage and ignition status, so you will hear about a flat battery before you find one, which is genuinely useful on a machine that sits unused over winter.

Monitoring, App and Subscription

Monitoring

Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own in-house Secure Control Centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Coverage runs across the UK and Europe, and the device carries a multi-network roaming SIM so it connects through whichever network is strongest at its location rather than being tied to a single operator.

Alerts the control centre acts on include movement without the ignition being used, battery disconnection and anti-tamper events, and low battery voltage. In each case the team contacts you first to establish whether the bike is safe. Where a theft is confirmed, they liaise with local and national police forces and can involve the repatriation network to assist with recovery.

App

The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android gives you up-to-date location information for your motorcycle at any time — handy for checking on a bike in storage or parked somewhere unfamiliar without walking out to it.

The app is paired with a full secure online account accessible from any web browser, and this is where the detail sits. Through the account you can view current and historical locations and complete journey records, set up geofences with alerts, and access data reports. Unlike some entry-level S7 devices, the MotoTrack does include historical journey data, so you have a genuine record of where the bike has been rather than just a live dot on a map.

Subscription

A subscription is required for the tracking and monitoring service to operate, and it is not included in the purchase price of the device and installation. It is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics once your system is installed and activated, not to Safe & Sound Mobile.

Subscription OptionPrice
Direct Debit£12.99
1 year£149.00
2 years£249.00
3 years£339.00
Duration of vehicle ownership£549.00

Renewal and transfer: fixed-term subscriptions must be renewed at the end of the term for monitoring to continue.

The duration of vehicle ownership option covers you for as long as you own that motorcycle from the date of installation. It is transferable once only, within the first 12 months — after that period a new subscription is required. Terms and conditions apply to all subscription options.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?

Safe & Sound Mobile specialise in vehicle security installation, and fitting a tracker to a motorcycle is a genuinely different job from fitting one to a car. There is a fraction of the space, far more exposure to weather and vibration, and fewer places to hide a unit where a thief will not think to look. Experience with bikes specifically is what makes the difference.

We fit across UK mainland postcodes at your home, garage or workplace, so your bike never has to leave you. We also work with multiple leading tracker brands rather than a single manufacturer, which means if the MotoTrack is not the right fit for your machine or your policy, we will say so and suggest something that is.

Beyond the fitting itself, we will explain the Thatcham categories in plain terms, be straight with you about what the subscription costs and covers before you commit, set up your app and account on the day, and remain contactable afterwards. Call us on 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the MotoTrack

Is the MotoTrack accepted by my insurer?

The MotoTrack is approved to the Thatcham S7 standard, which is the category most commonly specified for motorcycles. However, tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given device.

Is installation included with the MotoTrack?

Yes. The price includes professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer, carried out at your home, garage or workplace through our nationwide mobile fitting service across UK mainland postcodes. Activation, account and app setup, a handover demonstration and your installation documentation are all included.

Does the MotoTrack require a subscription?

Yes. Tracking and 24/7 monitoring only operate with an active subscription, which is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics after installation and is separate from the purchase price. Options are Direct Debit at £12.99, one year at £149, two years at £249, three years at £339, or duration of ownership at £549.

What tracker category is the MotoTrack?

It is approved to the Thatcham S7 standard. S7 covers monitored stolen vehicle tracking without a driver recognition requirement, and it superseded the older Category 6 classification you may still see on some policy documents. It is not an S5 device — there are no rider detection tags and no immobilisation.

Does the MotoTrack have a mobile app?

Yes. The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android shows up-to-date location for your bike. It is paired with a full secure online account offering current and historical locations and journeys, geofences and data reports, all accessible from any web browser.

Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the MotoTrack?

We offer nationwide mobile installation across UK mainland postcodes, fitting at your home, garage, workplace or storage location. We also fit at our Chelmsford workshop if you prefer to bring the bike to us. Call 01245 921133 to confirm coverage for your postcode.

Will the MotoTrack alert me if my bike is lifted into a van?

Yes, and this is one of its most useful functions for a motorcycle. If the bike is moved without the ignition being operated, the tracker flags it and the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre is alerted. They will contact you to confirm whether the movement was authorised, so a theft in progress can be acted on quickly rather than discovered hours later.

Can I move the MotoTrack to my next bike?

Yes. SmarTrack devices can be removed and refitted to another vehicle, so the unit does not have to be written off when you change machines. If you hold a duration of ownership subscription, note that it is transferable once only within the first 12 months — after that a new subscription is required. Contact us to arrange removal and refitting.
