Clifford 330X1 OEM Alarm – Thatcham 2-1 Upgrade

£400.00

The Clifford 330X1 is a Thatcham-approved OEM alarm upgrade (Category 2-1) for CANbus-equipped cars, with a built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor as standard. It arms from the factory key fob you already carry, so nothing changes about how you use the vehicle. Supplied with professional installation and vehicle-specific programming by Safe & Sound Mobile at our Chelmsford workshop.

Key Benefits

Subscription

No subscription. The Clifford 330X1 is a self-contained alarm system, not a GPS tracker. There is no SIM, no monitoring service, no monthly or annual fee and nothing to renew — you pay once for the system and its installation.

Insurance Requirement

A 2-1 upgrade adds a Thatcham-approved alarm to a vehicle that already has a factory immobiliser, bringing the combined security up to Category 1 standard. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering — and ask whether a 2>1 upgrade is acceptable.

Clifford 330X1 OEM Alarm System – Thatcham 2-1 Upgrade, Supplied and Fitted

The Clifford 330X1 is a Thatcham-approved Category 2-1 alarm upgrade for vehicles with CANbus wiring. It communicates with your car’s own data network rather than being spliced into it, and arms from the factory remote already on your keyring. Protection covers doors, boot, bonnet and ignition, backed by a built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor, interior ultrasonic sensing and a 6-tone battery back-up siren. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it with professional installation and vehicle-specific programming at our Chelmsford workshop.

Is the Clifford 330X1 Right for You?

This is the choice for owners of European marques in particular — the compatibility list covers Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Seat, Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat, Chrysler, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Subaru — who want a proper alarm without an aftermarket fob or visible aftermarket wiring. If your car has a factory immobiliser but weak perimeter protection, the 330X1 fills that gap while leaving the vehicle looking and behaving exactly as it did.

Two limits are worth knowing before you order. The immobiliser half of a 2-1 upgrade comes from your car, so the vehicle needs a suitable factory immobiliser and CANbus wiring for this approach to work — older or non-CANbus vehicles want a standalone Category 1 system such as the Clifford Concept 650 MK3 instead. And if your insurer has specified an S5, S5 Plus or S7 product, that is a tracker requirement that no alarm can meet.

What Is Included?

  • Clifford 330X1 fault-tolerant CANbus security upgrade module
  • Built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor
  • Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren
  • Interior ultrasonic protection sensors
  • Superbright status LED
  • Professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer at our Chelmsford workshop
  • Vehicle-specific programming so the system reads your car’s CANbus correctly
  • Testing and full handover demonstration
  • Safe & Sound Mobile aftercare and ongoing support
Ongoing costs: none. The 330X1 does not use a mobile network or a monitoring centre, so no monitoring subscription is included, required or charged separately. The purchase price covers the system and its installation.

Not every function is available on every vehicle — what the system can do depends on what your car’s CANbus exposes. Send us your registration before ordering and we will confirm exactly what your model supports.

Thatcham Category 2-1 Upgrade and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham categories describe what a security system delivers. Category 2 means an immobiliser — standard equipment on essentially every car built in recent decades. Category 1 means an immobiliser plus an alarm. A 2-1 upgrade joins the two: the vehicle contributes the immobiliser it already has, and a Thatcham-approved alarm is added to bring overall protection to Category 1 standard.

The Clifford 330X1 supplies the alarm half — door, boot, bonnet and ignition monitoring, shock detection, interior ultrasonic sensing and a battery-backed siren — working alongside your car’s factory immobiliser. This only holds if that factory immobiliser is present and suitable, which is the practical difference between a 2-1 upgrade and a standalone Category 1 system where the immobiliser is built into the alarm itself.

Before you order: some insurers treat a 2>1 upgrade as equivalent to Category 1; others insist on a standalone Category 1 system. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering, and ask specifically whether a 2>1 upgrade qualifies. We cannot guarantee acceptance by any individual insurer, and any premium adjustment is at their discretion.

How the Clifford 330X1 Works

Installation and programming. The 330X1 connects to your vehicle’s CANbus and is programmed to your specific make and model, so it reads the car’s own status messages — door open, bonnet up, boot ajar, ignition on — rather than needing separate switches wired to each point. Fewer physical connections means less to go wrong and less trace of an aftermarket install.

Arming. You lock the car with your factory fob exactly as always, and the alarm sets with it. No second remote, no different button sequence, nothing new to remember. Unlocking disarms it just as quietly, with the interior lights coming up as you would expect.

Detection. Three layers work together. The CANbus reports any door, boot, bonnet or ignition activity. The built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor picks up impact on the bodywork or glass. The ultrasonic sensors watch for movement inside the cabin. Between them they cover someone opening the car, someone attacking it from outside, and someone already in it.

Response. A trigger sounds the Revenger 6-tone siren, flashes the parking lights and lights the superbright LED, with a horn honk output on vehicles that support it. The siren carries its own back-up battery, so disconnecting the vehicle battery does not silence it, and the Failsafe starter kill adds a further barrier to driving away.

Response, Everyday Use and Ongoing Costs

Alarm Response

The 330X1 responds at the vehicle, audibly and visually. There is no monitoring centre, no call handling and no police liaison, because the system has no mobile connection. Its value is in making any attempt loud and conspicuous while staying completely invisible the rest of the time.

Everyday Use

There is essentially nothing to operate. Your factory fob handles everything, your keyring stays the size it was, and the car behaves as it did before. There is no smartphone app — location and phone alerts are a tracker’s job. The AUX output and MUX sensor port leave room to add remote engine start via a 561T module, or dual-zone proximity sensing, later on.

Subscription

None, and none is included, because there is no service behind the product. No SIM, no monitoring contract, no renewal date. And because the system runs on your existing fob, there is not even a spare remote battery to keep track of.

How Installation Works

1. Check Compatibility

Send us your registration or call 01245 921133. Because each unit is programmed vehicle-specific and available functions vary between models, we confirm what your car supports before you commit to anything.

2. Order Your System

Place your order online or over the phone once compatibility is confirmed, including any accessories such as remote engine start you would like fitted at the same visit.

3. Book Your Fitting Date

Our team arranges a date at our Chelmsford workshop. CANbus programming and testing are best carried out there, where the system can be configured and verified properly against your vehicle.

4. Professional Installation

The module, siren, ultrasonic sensors and LED are installed discreetly and integrated with your CANbus, then programmed to your make and model and tested through every protected zone including the shock sensor.

5. Handover

We demonstrate arming and disarming from your own fob, show you the status LED and how the shock and interior sensors behave, and explain what to expect day to day before you drive away.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Clifford Installation?

CANbus work punishes guesswork. A module programmed to the wrong variant, or connected without care, can produce dashboard warnings, parasitic battery drain or an alarm that goes off at nothing — all far easier to avoid than to trace afterwards. Our engineers fit Clifford systems regularly and know which platforms behave predictably and which need extra attention.

We also check compatibility properly before taking payment, because nobody wants to discover on fitting day that a vehicle-specific system does not suit their vehicle. And since we supply alarms, immobilisers and several leading tracker brands, we will tell you honestly whether a 2-1 upgrade, a standalone Category 1 system or a tracker is what your insurer is actually asking for. Every installation ends with a proper demonstration, and our support line stays open to you afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Clifford 330X1

Is the Clifford 330X1 accepted by my insurer?

It is Thatcham approved as a Category 2-1 upgrade. Some insurers accept a 2>1 upgrade wherever they would accept Category 1; others specify a standalone Category 1 system. Requirements vary between insurers, so check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering and ask directly whether a 2>1 upgrade qualifies.

What security category is the Clifford 330X1?

Thatcham Category 2-1 upgrade. It provides the alarm element while your vehicle’s factory immobiliser provides the rest, which together meet Category 1 standard. Without a suitable factory immobiliser you would need a standalone Category 1 system such as the Clifford Concept 650 MK3 instead.

Is installation included with the Clifford 330X1?

Yes. The price includes professional installation and vehicle-specific programming at our Chelmsford workshop, along with testing and a handover demonstration. Workshop fitting is how we make sure a system programmed to your exact model is configured and verified correctly.

Does the Clifford 330X1 require a subscription?

No. There is no SIM, no monitoring service and no renewal fee, because the system operates entirely at the vehicle. Ongoing subscriptions apply only to GPS trackers, which need a mobile network and a monitoring centre to function at all.

Does the Clifford 330X1 have a mobile app?

No. It is operated entirely through your existing factory key fob and does not report status, location or alerts to a phone. If you want to see where your vehicle is and receive alerts on your mobile, a GPS tracker covers that and can be fitted alongside the alarm.

Will the Clifford 330X1 fit my car?

It is compatible with CANbus vehicles including Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroën, Fiat, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Seat, Subaru and Volkswagen. Available functions still vary by model and year, so send us your registration and we will confirm precisely what yours supports before you order.

What is the difference between the 330X1 and the 330X3?

They are close siblings — both Thatcham 2-1 CANbus upgrades using your factory fob, at the same price. The 330X1’s published specification includes the built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor. In practice the right choice usually comes down to which module supports your particular vehicle, so let us check your registration and recommend accordingly.

What does the Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor do?

It detects impact on the vehicle in two stages. A light knock — someone leaning on the car or a trolley catching a door — produces a brief warning rather than a full alarm, while a genuine strike on the bodywork or glass triggers the siren outright. That two-stage response is what keeps the system credible instead of ignored.

Book Your Clifford 330X1 Installation

The Clifford 330X1 gives CANbus-equipped cars a Thatcham-approved alarm that behaves like factory equipment: doors, boot, bonnet and ignition monitored through the vehicle’s own data network, a built-in Stinger Doubleguard shock sensor, interior ultrasonic sensing, a Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren and Failsafe starter kill — all armed by the key fob already in your pocket. There is no subscription and nothing to renew, and the system can be expanded later with remote start or proximity sensing. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it fully installed, programmed to your vehicle and demonstrated, fitted at our Chelmsford workshop.
