Clifford 330X3 OEM Alarm – Thatcham 2-1 Upgrade

£400.00

The Clifford 330X3 is a Thatcham-approved OEM alarm upgrade (Category 2-1) built specifically for cars with CANbus wiring. It arms and disarms from your existing factory key fob, so nothing extra goes on your keyring. Ideal for modern vehicles whose factory alarm is basic or absent, and supplied with professional installation by Safe & Sound Mobile at our Chelmsford workshop.

Key Benefits

  • Thatcham 2-1 upgrade – Adds a Thatcham-approved alarm to a car that already has a factory immobiliser.
  • Uses your own key fob – Arms and disarms through the OEM remote via CANbus, with no second remote to carry.
  • Door, boot, bonnet and ignition protection – Every entry point and the ignition circuit are monitored.
  • Interior ultrasonic sensing – Detects movement inside the cabin, not just doors opening.
  • Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren – Keeps sounding even if the vehicle’s power is cut.
  • Vehicle-specific programming – Each unit is programmed to your exact make and model so it reads the car’s own data rather than fighting it.
  • Expandable – Compatible with most Clifford accessories, including remote engine start and dual-zone proximity sensing.

  • Clifford 330X3 CANbus alarm upgrade system
  • Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren
  • Interior ultrasonic sensors
  • Superbright status LED

Subscription

No subscription. The Clifford 330X3 is a self-contained alarm system, not a GPS tracker. There is no SIM, no monitoring service, no monthly or annual fee and nothing to renew — you pay once for the system and its installation.

Insurance Requirement

A 2-1 upgrade adds a Thatcham-approved alarm to a vehicle that already carries a factory immobiliser, bringing the combined security up to Category 1 standard. It depends on your car having that factory immobiliser. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering.

Clifford 330X3 OEM Alarm System – Thatcham 2-1 Upgrade, Supplied and Fitted

The Clifford 330X3 is a Thatcham-approved Category 2-1 alarm upgrade designed specifically for vehicles with CANbus wiring. Rather than adding a second remote to your keys, it talks to the car’s own data network and arms from the factory key fob you already use. Protection covers doors, boot, bonnet and ignition, with interior ultrasonic sensing and a 6-tone battery back-up siren. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it with professional installation and vehicle-specific programming at our Chelmsford workshop.

Is the Clifford 330X3 Right for You?

This is the option for owners of modern CANbus cars who want a proper alarm without changing how they use the vehicle. If your car has a factory immobiliser but a weak alarm — or none at all — the 330X3 fills that gap while leaving your keyring and your daily routine exactly as they are. It particularly suits company cars, leased vehicles and anything where an obviously aftermarket setup would be unwelcome.

Two things determine whether it fits. First, your vehicle needs CANbus wiring and a suitable factory immobiliser, since the immobiliser half of a 2-1 upgrade comes from the car itself. Second, if your insurer has named an S5, S5 Plus or S7 product, that is a tracker requirement and no alarm will satisfy it. Owners of older or non-CANbus vehicles are better served by a standalone Category 1 system such as the Clifford Concept 650 MK3, which brings its own immobiliser.

What Is Included?

  • Clifford 330X3 fault-tolerant CANbus security upgrade module
  • Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren
  • Interior ultrasonic protection sensors
  • Superbright status LED
  • Professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer at our Chelmsford workshop
  • Vehicle-specific programming so the system reads your car’s CANbus correctly
  • Testing and full handover demonstration
  • Safe & Sound Mobile aftercare and ongoing support
Ongoing costs: none. The 330X3 does not use a mobile network or a monitoring centre, so no monitoring subscription is included, required or charged separately. The purchase price covers the system and its installation.

Not every function is available on every vehicle — what the system can do depends on what your car’s CANbus makes available. Some vehicles may also need an additional door motor for remote central locking. Send us your registration before ordering and we will confirm exactly what your car supports.

Thatcham Category 2-1 Upgrade and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham categories describe what a security system does. Category 2 covers immobilisers — the type fitted as standard to essentially every car built in the last thirty years. Category 1 covers systems providing both an immobiliser and an alarm. A 2-1 upgrade is the bridge between them: your vehicle already supplies the immobiliser, and a Thatcham-approved alarm is added to bring the overall protection up to Category 1 standard.

That is what the Clifford 330X3 does. It contributes door, boot, bonnet and ignition monitoring, interior ultrasonic sensing and a battery-backed siren, working alongside the factory immobiliser your car came with. The approach only holds up if the vehicle genuinely has a suitable factory immobiliser — which is the key difference between this and a standalone Category 1 system like the Concept 650 MK3, where the immobiliser is built into the alarm itself.

Before you order: some insurers accept a 2-1 upgrade wherever they would accept Category 1; others specify a standalone Category 1 system. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering, and ask specifically whether a 2>1 upgrade is acceptable. We cannot guarantee acceptance by any individual insurer, and any premium adjustment is entirely at their discretion.

How the Clifford 330X3 Works

Installation and programming. Rather than splicing into analogue wiring, the 330X3 connects to your vehicle’s CANbus and is programmed to your specific make and model. That means it reads the car’s own status messages — door open, bonnet up, boot ajar, ignition on — instead of needing separate switches wired to each. Fewer connections, fewer things to go wrong later.

Arming. You lock the car with the factory fob exactly as you always have, and the alarm arms with it. There is no second remote, no different button sequence and nothing new to remember. Unlocking disarms it just as transparently, with the interior lights coming up as you would expect.

Detection. Doors, boot, bonnet and the ignition circuit are all monitored through the CANbus, while the ultrasonic sensors watch the cabin interior for movement. Between them, they cover both someone opening the car and someone already inside it.

Response. A trigger sounds the Revenger 6-tone siren, flashes the parking lights and lights the superbright LED, with a horn honk output available on vehicles that support it. Because the siren carries its own back-up battery, disconnecting the car’s battery does not silence it. The Failsafe starter kill adds a further obstacle to driving the vehicle away.

Response, Everyday Use and Ongoing Costs

Alarm Response

The 330X3 responds at the vehicle, audibly and visually. There is no monitoring centre, no call handling and no police liaison, because the system has no mobile connection. Its value lies in making an attempt on the car noisy and obvious while remaining completely invisible when everything is normal.

Everyday Use

This is the system’s strongest argument: there is nothing to use. Your factory fob does everything, your keyring stays the same size, and the car behaves as it did before — just with a great deal more watching it. There is no smartphone app; if you want location and alerts on your phone, that is a tracker’s job. The AUX output and MUX sensor port leave room to add remote engine start or dual-zone proximity sensing later.

Subscription

None, and none is included, because there is no service behind the product. No SIM, no monitoring contract, no renewal date. Once fitted, the system simply works — and since it runs on your factory fob, there is not even a remote battery to replace.

How Installation Works

1. Check Compatibility

Send us your registration or call 01245 921133. Because each unit is programmed vehicle-specific and available functions vary by model, we confirm what your car supports before you commit.

2. Order Your System

Place your order online or over the phone once compatibility is confirmed, including any accessories such as remote engine start you want fitted at the same time.

3. Book Your Fitting Date

Our team arranges a date at our Chelmsford workshop. CANbus programming and testing are best done in the workshop, where the system can be properly configured and verified against your vehicle.

4. Professional Installation

The module, siren, ultrasonic sensors and LED are installed discreetly and integrated with your vehicle’s CANbus, then programmed to your make and model and tested through every protected zone.

5. Handover

We demonstrate arming and disarming from your own fob, show you the status LED and interior sensor behaviour, and explain what to expect day to day before you drive away.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Clifford Installation?

CANbus work is unforgiving. A module programmed to the wrong variant, or connected carelessly, can produce fault codes, battery drain or an alarm that triggers on nothing at all — problems that are far easier to avoid than to diagnose later. Our engineers install Clifford systems regularly and know which vehicles behave predictably and which need extra care.

We also check compatibility properly before taking your money, because a vehicle-specific system is not something you want to discover is unsuitable on fitting day. And because we supply alarms, immobilisers and several leading tracker brands, we can tell you honestly whether a 2-1 upgrade, a standalone Category 1 system or a tracker is what your insurer is actually asking for. Every installation ends with a proper demonstration, and our support line stays open to you afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Clifford 330X3

Is the Clifford 330X3 accepted by my insurer?

It is Thatcham approved as a Category 2-1 upgrade. Some insurers accept a 2>1 upgrade wherever they would accept Category 1; others specify a standalone Category 1 system. Requirements vary between insurers, so check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering, and ask directly whether a 2>1 upgrade qualifies.

What security category is the Clifford 330X3?

Thatcham Category 2-1 upgrade. It supplies the alarm element and relies on your vehicle’s factory immobiliser for the rest, which together meet Category 1 standard. If your car has no factory immobiliser, you need a standalone Category 1 system such as the Clifford Concept 650 MK3 instead.

Is installation included with the Clifford 330X3?

Yes. The price includes professional installation and vehicle-specific programming at our Chelmsford workshop, plus testing and a handover demonstration. Because the system is programmed to your exact model, workshop fitting is how we make sure everything is configured and verified correctly.

Does the Clifford 330X3 require a subscription?

No. There is no SIM, no monitoring service and no renewal fee, because the system works entirely at the vehicle. Ongoing subscriptions apply only to GPS trackers, which need a mobile network and a monitoring centre to do their job.

Does the Clifford 330X3 have a mobile app?

No. It is operated entirely through your existing factory key fob and does not report status, location or alerts to a phone. If you want to see where your vehicle is and get alerts on your mobile, a GPS tracker covers that and can be fitted alongside.

Will the Clifford 330X3 work on my car?

It needs CANbus wiring, which covers most cars built in roughly the last two decades, and each unit is programmed to a specific make and model. Available functions vary between vehicles, so send us your registration before ordering and we will confirm exactly what yours supports.

Do I get an extra remote with the Clifford 330X3?

No, and that is the point of it. The system arms and disarms through your vehicle’s own keyless entry remote over the CANbus, so there is no second fob to carry, no extra battery to replace and no new habit to learn. Lock the car as you always do and the alarm sets with it.

Can I add remote engine start later?

Yes, subject to your vehicle. The 330X3 is compatible with most Clifford accessories, including remote engine start and dual-zone proximity sensing, and provides an AUX output and optional sensor input for expansion. It is usually cheaper to fit extras during the original installation, so mention them when you book.

Book Your Clifford 330X3 Installation

The Clifford 330X3 gives CANbus-equipped cars a Thatcham-approved alarm that behaves as though the manufacturer fitted it: doors, boot, bonnet and ignition monitored through the car’s own data network, interior ultrasonic sensing, a Revenger 6-tone battery back-up siren and Failsafe starter kill — all armed by the key fob already in your pocket. There is no subscription and nothing to renew, and the system can be expanded later with remote start or proximity sensing. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it fully installed, programmed to your vehicle and demonstrated, fitted at our Chelmsford workshop.
