Hornet MAXX 1 Cat 1 Alarm – Supplied & Fitted UK

£450.00

The Hornet MAXX 1 is a Thatcham-evaluated Category 1 security system, pairing a full alarm with a two-point immobiliser at a price normally associated with far more basic products. It suits older cars, vans and vehicles with weak factory security where an insurer has asked for a Category 1 alarm and immobiliser. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it fully installed, with nationwide mobile fitting at your address.

Key Benefits

  • Thatcham-evaluated Category 1 – Alarm and immobiliser in one system, at the lower end of Category 1 pricing.
  • Two-point immobiliser – Two circuits stay interrupted until the system is disarmed, so the engine cannot be started.
  • Door, boot and bonnet protection – Every opening on the vehicle is monitored, not just the doors.
  • Ultrasonic interior sensing – Detects movement inside the cabin, with a bypass option when you need it.
  • Battery back-up siren – Continues sounding even if the vehicle’s main power is cut.
  • 4-digit PIN stealth switch – The system cannot be disarmed or reprogrammed without your personal code.
  • Nationwide mobile installation – Fitted at your chosen UK address by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer.

What’s Included

  • Hornet MAXX 1 alarm and immobiliser system
  • Two 4-button Hornet remote controls
  • Battery back-up siren with data-link

Subscription

No subscription. The Hornet MAXX 1 is a self-contained alarm and immobiliser, not a GPS tracker. There is no SIM, no monitoring service, no monthly or annual fee and nothing to renew — you pay once for the system and its installation.

Insurance Requirement

Thatcham Category 1 is the classification for systems providing both an alarm and an electronic immobiliser, and the MAXX 1 has been evaluated to it. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering.

Hornet MAXX 1 Thatcham Category 1 Alarm – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide

The Hornet MAXX 1 is a Thatcham-evaluated Category 1 vehicle security system, combining door, boot and bonnet protection with ultrasonic interior sensing, a two-point immobiliser and a battery back-up siren. It exists to put genuine Category 1 protection within reach of owners who do not want to spend flagship money to get it. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies the MAXX 1 complete with professional installation, programming and handover, fitted nationwide at an address that suits you.

Is the Hornet MAXX 1 Right for You?

This is the practical choice when an insurer has asked for Category 1 and the vehicle does not warrant a flagship system. It works particularly well on older cars and vans — vehicles whose factory security is dated or non-existent, where the alarm is doing real work rather than supplementing a modern OEM setup. Owners of second cars, project vehicles and work vans tend to land here for the same reason.

It is worth knowing what you are trading away. The MAXX 1 uses ultrasonic interior sensing rather than external proximity detection, so it reacts once someone is inside the cabin rather than warning them off as they approach. It has no GPS, no mobile connection and no app, so it will not tell you where the vehicle has gone. If your policy specifies an S5, S5 Plus or S7 product, that is a tracker requirement and this alarm will not meet it. The system is upgradeable, though, and is compatible with many Viper and Clifford accessories if you want to build on it later.

What Is Included?

  • Hornet MAXX 1 Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser
  • Two 4-button Hornet remote controls
  • Battery back-up siren with data-link

Ongoing costs: none. The Hornet MAXX 1 does not use a mobile network or a monitoring centre, so no monitoring subscription is included, required or charged separately. The purchase price covers the system and its installation.

Thatcham Category 1 and Insurance Requirements

Thatcham categories are the shorthand UK insurers use for aftermarket security. Category 1 is the classification for systems that provide an alarm and an electronic immobiliser together — perimeter protection, interior sensing, an audible siren, and a means of preventing the engine from starting. Category 2 covers immobiliser-only systems, and S5, S5 Plus and S7 describe stolen-vehicle trackers rather than alarms.

The Hornet MAXX 1 has been evaluated by Thatcham to Category 1. It meets the standard through door, boot and bonnet monitoring, ultrasonic interior protection, its battery-backed siren and the on-board two-point immobiliser. Insurers most often specify Category 1 on vehicles with no factory alarm, on older or higher-risk models, and on vehicles kept somewhere exposed overnight.

Where the MAXX 1 differs from a flagship Category 1 system such as the Clifford Concept 650 MK3 is in what surrounds the core requirement. The Clifford adds external proximity sensing with a warn-away zone and BlackJax anti-carjacking; the Hornet meets the same category with a simpler feature set at a lower price. Both satisfy Category 1 as a classification.

Before you order: requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given system, and any premium adjustment is entirely at your insurer’s discretion. If your policy wording is unclear, call us and we will help you work out what is actually being asked for.

How the Hornet MAXX 1 Works

Installation. A Safe & Sound Mobile engineer wires the system into your vehicle, sites the control unit out of reach, and positions the siren, ultrasonic sensors, status LED and PIN stealth switch where each does its job. Sensitivity and options are then programmed to suit the vehicle.

Arming. The 4-button remote arms and disarms the system and operates the central locking through the on-board relays. Silent arming is available when you would rather not announce yourself, and ignition-controlled locking can be programmed so the doors secure themselves as you drive off. Where the vehicle supports it, total closure shuts open windows on arming using the built-in timer.

Detection. Doors, boot and bonnet are monitored continuously, and ultrasonic sensors cover movement inside the cabin. The nuisance prevention circuit sits behind them, filtering out the passing traffic and weather that make poorly configured alarms unbearable to live with.

Response. A trigger sounds the siren, and because that siren carries its own back-up battery, cutting the vehicle’s power does not silence it. Trigger zone identification then tells you afterwards which zone was activated — useful for knowing whether someone tried the boot or whether the cat set off the interior sensor.

Immobilisation and override. The two-point immobiliser keeps the engine from starting while the system is armed. Disarming or reprogramming through the stealth switch requires your 4-digit PIN, so a thief who finds the switch has found nothing useful.

Response, Everyday Use and Ongoing Costs

Alarm Response

The MAXX 1 responds at the vehicle. There is no monitoring centre, no call handling and no police liaison, because the system has no mobile connection. Protection comes from the siren, the flashing status LED, the immobilised engine circuits and the fact that everything keeps working when the battery is disconnected.

Everyday Use

Two 4-button remotes handle arming, disarming, locking and the auxiliary channels. There is no smartphone app for the Hornet MAXX 1. What it does offer is room to grow — three auxiliary outputs, a built-in sensor shunt so remote start can be added cleanly later, and compatibility with a broad range of Viper and Clifford accessories.

Subscription

There is no subscription, and none is included, because there is no service behind the product. No SIM, no monitoring contract, no renewal. Once installed, the only recurring cost is a remote battery now and then.

How Nationwide Mobile Installation Works

1. Order Your System

Buy online or call 01245 921133. If you are weighing the MAXX 1 against a flagship Category 1 system, tell us about the vehicle and what your insurer has asked for, and we will give you a straight answer.

2. Arrange Your Installation

Our fitting team contacts you to agree a date, time and location, and to confirm whether your vehicle needs a door motor or window module for central locking and total closure.

3. We Come to Your Vehicle

A professional mobile installer travels to your agreed address anywhere in mainland UK. Your vehicle stays where it is — no workshop drop-off, no time off work.

4. Professional Installation

The control unit, siren, ultrasonic sensors, LED and stealth switch are installed discreetly and integrated with your vehicle’s electrics, then programmed and set up. Category 1 systems must be professionally installed to retain their approval.

5. Setup and Handover

We test the system, hand over both remotes, set your 4-digit PIN with you, and walk you through arming, silent arming, the interior sensor bypass and trigger zone indication before we leave.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Alarm Installation?

Ultrasonic sensing is unforgiving of a careless install. Sensor placement and sensitivity decide whether the system catches an intruder or wakes the street every time a lorry goes past, and getting that right on an older vehicle with tired door seals takes experience rather than a manual. Our engineers fit alarms and immobilisers every day.

We install nationwide on a mobile basis, so the work happens at your home or workplace and your day continues around it. Because we supply alarms, immobilisers and several leading tracker brands, we will tell you honestly which product meets your insurer’s requirement — including when a cheaper option is perfectly adequate, or when it is not. Every job ends with a proper demonstration, and our support line stays open to you afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Hornet MAXX 1

Is the Hornet MAXX 1 accepted by my insurer?

It has been evaluated by Thatcham to Category 1, which is the classification insurers usually name when they want an aftermarket alarm and immobiliser. Requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Any premium adjustment is at your insurer’s discretion and cannot be promised.

Is installation included with the Hornet MAXX 1?

Yes. Professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer is included, carried out at your chosen UK address, along with programming, testing and a handover demonstration. A small number of vehicles need an additional door motor or window module, which we identify and quote for before booking.

Does the Hornet MAXX 1 require a subscription?

No. There is no SIM card, no monitoring service and no annual renewal, because the system operates entirely at the vehicle. Ongoing subscriptions apply to GPS trackers, which depend on a mobile network and a monitoring centre to do their job.

What security category is the Hornet MAXX 1?

Thatcham evaluated Category 1 — meaning it delivers both an alarm and an immobiliser. That is not the same thing as a tracker category. If your policy names S5, S5 Plus or S7, it is referring to stolen-vehicle tracking systems, and you would need a tracker in addition to or instead of this alarm.

Does the Hornet MAXX have a mobile app?

No. It is controlled by its 4-button remotes and does not report status, location or alerts to a phone. If you want to see where your vehicle is and receive alerts on your mobile, that is a tracker’s job, and one can be fitted alongside the alarm.

Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the Hornet MAXX 1?

Anywhere in mainland UK. Our installers come to you, so the system can be fitted at home, at work or anywhere the vehicle can be parked safely while the work is carried out. Send us your postcode and we will arrange a convenient appointment.

What is the PIN stealth switch for?

It is a hidden switch used for valet mode and system programming, protected by a 4-digit code you choose at handover. Without that code the switch cannot disarm or reconfigure anything, which removes the classic weakness of an override switch that a thief can simply find and flick.

Can the interior sensor be turned off if I have a pet or open windows?

Yes. The ultrasonic interior protection has a bypass facility, so you can leave a dog in the vehicle or park with a window cracked without triggering the alarm, while doors, boot, bonnet and the immobiliser all stay armed. We show you how to use it during handover.

Book Your Hornet MAXX 1 Nationwide Installation

The Hornet MAXX 1 delivers Thatcham-evaluated Category 1 protection without flagship pricing: door, boot and bonnet monitoring, ultrasonic interior sensing with bypass, an on-board two-point immobiliser, a battery back-up siren that survives having the power cut, and a PIN-protected stealth switch. Trigger zone identification tells you what set it off, and three auxiliary channels plus Viper and Clifford accessory compatibility leave room to expand later. There is no subscription and nothing to renew. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies it fully installed, programmed and demonstrated, fitted nationwide at the address of your choice.
