SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide
The SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation is a stolen vehicle tracking system tested to the Thatcham S7 standard and supplied with SmarTrack’s optional remote immobilisation function enabled from the outset. It uses GPS and GLONASS positioning with GPRS and GSM communication, is monitored 24/7 by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, and gives that control centre the ability to immobilise your vehicle over the air during a confirmed theft recovery — typically at police request. Safe & Sound Mobile supply the system and fit it at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.
Please read this before ordering
There are two very different kinds of immobilisation sold with SmarTrack trackers, and the difference matters more than almost anything else on this page.
This product provides remote immobilisation. It is a tool used by the monitoring centre and police after a theft has been reported and the vehicle located. It does not arm itself when you park, and it will not prevent a thief from starting and driving your vehicle away in the first place.
If what you want is a system that stops the engine starting without an authorised tag or card present, that is automatic immobilisation and you need the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB instead. Call us on 01245 921133 if you are unsure which you have been asked for.
Is the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation Right for You?
This system suits owners who want the strongest possible recovery outcome rather than theft prevention. Standard S7 tracking tells the police where your vehicle is; adding remote immobilisation means that once it has been located, it can also be stopped. In a recovery operation involving a vehicle in motion, that is a meaningful difference — it removes the need for a pursuit and reduces the chance of the vehicle being moved on again before officers reach it.
It is a sensible choice for cars, vans and commercial vehicles where an S7 tracker satisfies the insurer but you would like more capability than the baseline, and particularly for fleet and business users who want the recovery option available across their vehicles without the cost and administrative overhead of driver detection cards.
Where it is not the answer: if your insurer has specified Thatcham S5, this product will not satisfy that requirement, because S5 mandates driver recognition and this system has none. Adding immobilisation to an S7 device does not upgrade its category. Equally, if your concern is relay attack or key cloning on a high-value car — where you want the vehicle physically unable to start — the S5+ iMOB with No Tag, No Start is the correct product.

What this system does not do
We would rather you knew before ordering than afterwards. This device does not provide:
- Automatic immobilisation when you switch off and walk away
- Any prevention of a thief starting or driving the vehicle
- Driver recognition, driver detection cards or tags
- Thatcham S5 category coverage
Adding remote immobilisation to an S7 tracker does not make it an S5 device. If your insurer has specified S5, or you want the engine prevented from starting, ask us about the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB.
SmarTrack S7 Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements
Thatcham Research publishes the standards UK insurers use to classify aftermarket vehicle security. For stolen vehicle tracking there are two current categories. S7 covers monitored tracking systems that report a vehicle’s position to a control centre. S5 covers everything S7 does and adds a mandatory driver recognition element, so the system can also verify whether an authorised driver is present each time the vehicle moves.
S7 is the category insurers most commonly specify for standard and mid-value cars, vans and commercial vehicles, and it is generally what a policy means when it asks for a “Thatcham approved tracker” without naming a category. Older policy wording may refer to Category 6, which S7 superseded. S5 tends to be reserved for higher-value vehicles at the greatest risk of targeted, organised theft.
Here is the point that causes the most confusion, so it is worth stating plainly: immobilisation is not what separates S7 from S5. Driver recognition is. This product has an immobiliser and remains an S7 device, because it cannot verify who is driving. A policy asking for S5 will not be satisfied by it.
| S7 with Immobilisation | S5+ iMOB | |
|---|---|---|
| Thatcham category | S7 | S5 |
| Driver recognition | No | Yes — Bluetooth cards or tags |
| Type of immobilisation | Remote, during theft recovery | Automatic, every time you switch off |
| Stops a thief starting the vehicle | No | Yes |
| Who activates it | The monitoring centre, typically at police request | Nobody — it arms itself |
| Satisfies an S5 insurance requirement | No | Yes, subject to your insurer |
Before you order: tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Some policies name a specific Thatcham category, some require an approved installer, and some ask for an installation certificate. A monitoring subscription must also be kept active for the tracking and immobilisation service to operate. If you are unsure what has been asked of you, call us on 01245 921133 and we will help you match the requirement to the right product.
How the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation Works
Installation. Our engineer hard-wires the unit into the vehicle in a concealed position and wires the immobilisation circuit at the same time. This is why the immobilisation option has to be specified before your appointment — it is a physical connection made during the fit, not a setting switched on afterwards.
Everyday driving. Nothing changes. There is no tag to carry, no code to enter and nothing to arm or disarm. The immobiliser sits dormant and the tracker simply reports position and logs journeys to your online account. You will not notice the system is there.
If the vehicle is taken. You report the theft to the police and to Global Telemetrics on their dedicated theft line. If the vehicle is moved without the ignition being used — towed or lifted — the movement alert triggers automatically and the control centre contacts you first to confirm whether it is safe.
Recovery and immobilisation. Once a theft is confirmed, the control centre tracks the vehicle live and liaises with the police. This is where the immobilisation function comes in: with police involvement, the centre can immobilise the vehicle over the air, preventing it from being driven any further while officers close in. Where a vehicle has been taken abroad, Global Telemetrics can call on independent repatriation investigators with local knowledge.
Power and tampering. The unit has an internal backup battery, so cutting the vehicle’s power does not silence it, and that disconnection generates its own alert. It also monitors battery voltage and ignition status, so a failing battery is flagged before it strands you.
Monitoring, App and Subscription
Monitoring
Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own in-house Secure Control Centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with coverage across the UK and Europe. The device carries a multi-network roaming SIM so it connects through whichever network is strongest rather than being tied to a single operator.
Alerts the control centre acts on include movement without the ignition being used, geofence breaches, battery disconnection and anti-tamper events, low battery voltage, and an aftermarket alarm sounding where one has been connected. In each case the team contacts you first to establish whether the vehicle is safe. Where a theft is confirmed, they liaise with police forces and, on this product specifically, hold the ability to immobilise the vehicle remotely as part of that recovery operation.
App
The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android shows up-to-date location information for your vehicle at any time. It is paired with a full secure online account accessible from any web browser, and the account is where the detail lives.
Through the account you get current and historical locations and complete journey records, multiple geofences with alerts, data and scheduled reports, business and private mileage separation, odometer and driving style data, multiple logins with access control, and MoT and service reminders. Note that remote immobilisation is not a function you can trigger yourself from the app — it is operated by the control centre as part of a police-supported recovery.
Subscription
A subscription is required for the tracking, monitoring and immobilisation service to operate, and it is not included in the purchase price of the device and installation. It is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics once your system is installed and activated, not to Safe & Sound Mobile.
| Subscription Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Direct Debit | £12.99 |
| 1 year | £149.00 |
| 2 years | £249.00 |
| 3 years | £339.00 |
| Duration of vehicle ownership | £549.00 |
Renewal and transfer: fixed-term subscriptions must be renewed at the end of the term for monitoring to continue. If a subscription lapses, both the tracking and the remote immobilisation capability stop.
The duration of vehicle ownership option covers you for as long as you own that vehicle from the date of installation. It is transferable once only, within the first 12 months; after that period a new subscription is required. Terms and conditions apply to all subscription options.
How Nationwide Mobile Installation Works
Order Your Tracker
Choose the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation and place your order. Ordering this version rather than the standard S7 is what ensures the immobilisation circuit is wired on the day — it cannot be enabled remotely later.
Arrange Your Installation
Our team contacts you to book an appointment that suits your schedule, and confirms your vehicle’s make, model and year so the engineer arrives prepared for that immobilisation connection.
We Come to Your Vehicle
A Safe & Sound Mobile engineer attends your home, workplace or another agreed location anywhere on the UK mainland. No workshop visit and no lost day.
Professional Installation
The unit is fitted discreetly, wired into the vehicle and connected to the immobilisation circuit, then configured and tested. Immobilisation wiring is the part that rewards an experienced installer.
Setup and Handover
We activate the system, set up your Global Telemetrics account and app, and explain clearly what the immobilisation function does and does not do so there are no surprises. You receive your installation documentation and our aftercare contact details before we leave.
Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?
Safe & Sound Mobile specialise in vehicle security installation, and an immobilising tracker is a job where the wiring genuinely matters. The immobilisation circuit has to be connected correctly and concealed properly, on a vehicle-specific basis, for the function to work when it is finally needed.
We fit across UK mainland postcodes at your home or workplace, and we work with multiple leading tracker brands rather than a single manufacturer. That independence matters on this product in particular, because the honest answer for many customers who ask for “a tracker with an immobiliser” is a different device entirely — and we would rather tell you that before you buy.
Beyond the fitting, we will explain the Thatcham categories in plain terms, be clear about the difference between remote and automatic immobilisation, tell you what the subscription costs before you commit, set up your app and account on the day, and remain contactable afterwards. Call us on 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation
Does the immobiliser stop a thief starting my vehicle?
No, and this is the most important thing to understand about this product. The immobilisation is remote — it is activated by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre during a confirmed theft, typically at police request, to stop a vehicle that has already been taken and located. It does not arm when you park. For automatic immobilisation that prevents the engine starting, you need the SmarTrack S5+ iMOB.
Is the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation accepted by my insurer?
It is tested to the Thatcham S7 standard, the category most commonly specified for standard and mid-value vehicles. Adding immobilisation does not raise it to S5. Tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given device.
Is installation included with the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation?
Yes. The price includes professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer, carried out at your home or workplace through our nationwide mobile fitting service across UK mainland postcodes. Wiring of the immobilisation circuit, activation, account and app setup, a handover demonstration and your installation documentation are all included.
Does the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation require a subscription?
Yes. Tracking, 24/7 monitoring and the remote immobilisation capability only operate with an active subscription, paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics after installation and separate from the purchase price. Options are Direct Debit at £12.99, one year at £149, two years at £249, three years at £339, or duration of ownership at £549.
What tracker category is the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation?
Thatcham S7. The category is determined by whether the system has driver recognition, not by whether it has an immobiliser. Because this product cannot verify who is driving, it remains S7 regardless of the immobilisation function. It superseded the older Category 6 classification you may still see on policy documents.
Does the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation have a mobile app?
Yes. The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android shows up-to-date location, paired with a full online account offering historical journeys, multiple geofences, mileage records and reports. Note that you cannot immobilise your own vehicle from the app — that function sits with the control centre as part of a police-supported recovery.
Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the SmarTrack S7 with Immobilisation?
We offer nationwide mobile installation across UK mainland postcodes, fitting at your home, workplace or another suitable agreed location. We also fit at our Chelmsford workshop if you prefer to bring the vehicle to us. Call 01245 921133 to confirm coverage for your postcode.
Can I add remote immobilisation later if I buy the standard S7?
Not without a further installation visit. SmarTrack require remote immobilisation to be requested before installation, because it involves a physical connection to the vehicle’s immobilisation circuit made during the fit. If you think you may want the function, it is considerably cheaper to specify it now than to arrange a return visit later.
