SmarTrack S5 Plus Tracker – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide
The SmarTrack S5 Plus is a Thatcham Category S5 stolen-vehicle tracking system from Global Telemetrics, with remote immobilisation added on top. It gives you everything the standard S5 does — GPS and GLONASS positioning, driver identification and round-the-clock monitoring — plus the ability for the control room to immobilise the vehicle over the air once a theft has been confirmed and the police have requested it. Safe & Sound Mobile supplies the S5 Plus with covert professional installation and nationwide mobile fitting at your home or workplace.
Is the SmarTrack S5 Plus Right for You?
The S5 Plus suits owners who already need an S5 tracker and want the recovery odds improved further. Once a stolen vehicle is stopped — at a set of lights, in a holding yard, wherever the thieves leave it — immobilisation means it stays there. That matters most on cars that are stolen to order and moved quickly, and on vehicles where a few hours’ delay is the difference between recovery and a container.
Be clear about what you are buying, though. Remote immobilisation is a recovery tool, not a theft deterrent — it does nothing until a theft has been confirmed and the police have asked for it. If you want the vehicle to refuse to start unless your card is present, that is the S5+ iMOB, a different device.
If your insurer has simply specified S5, the standard SmarTrack S5 meets that requirement and costs £40 a year less to run. If they have specified S7, either is more than you need. And if your vehicle cannot take an immobilisation circuit, we will tell you before you order rather than on the driveway.

The monitoring subscription is charged separately and is not included in the purchase price. It is set by Global Telemetrics and paid directly to them once the tracker is installed. SmarTrack S5 Plus Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements
Thatcham Research categorises vehicle security products by what they actually do. Category S5 covers a monitored tracking system that also verifies the driver is authorised, and it replaced the older Category 5 naming — so an insurer asking for a “Cat 5” tracker is asking for S5.
The SmarTrack S5 Plus is certified to Thatcham Category S5, and it meets the driver identification requirement through the D-iD app or a Bluetooth driver detection card. The “Plus” is SmarTrack’s own designation for the addition of remote immobilisation. That is worth understanding: immobilisation is not part of the Thatcham S5 criteria, so it is unlikely on its own to be something an insurer asks for. You are buying it because you want it, not because a policy demands it.
Insurers most commonly specify S5 on higher-value, prestige and performance vehicles, and on models that appear frequently in theft data. Some accept S7. A small number ask specifically for an immobilising system, in which case the S5+ iMOB — where the vehicle will not start without the Bluetooth card — is usually the better match, since it immobilises automatically rather than only after a confirmed theft.
| SmarTrack S5 | SmarTrack S5 Plus | SmarTrack S5+ iMOB | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracking and monitoring | Yes, 24/7 | Yes, 24/7 | Yes, 24/7 |
| Driver recognition | App or Bluetooth card | App or Bluetooth card | Bluetooth driver detection card |
| Immobilisation | None | Remote, control room, at police request after a confirmed theft | Automatic — vehicle stays immobilised unless the card is present |
| Acts before a theft? | No — alerts only | No — alerts, then immobilisation during recovery | Yes — the vehicle will not start |
| Annual subscription | £159 | £199 | £199 |
Tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. If your policy documents mention a category and you are not sure what it means in practice, call us on 01245 921133 and we will go through the wording with you first.
How the SmarTrack S5 Plus Tracker Works
Installation. Our engineer fits the S5 Plus out of sight and wires in the immobilisation circuit, then commissions the system and registers it to you with Global Telemetrics. The immobilisation is tested with the control centre before the engineer leaves.
Normal driving. The tracker establishes its position from GPS and GLONASS satellites and reports over the GSM/GPRS mobile network. It also watches battery voltage and ignition status. You carry your driver detection card, or keep the D-iD app running in the background — nothing else changes about how you use the vehicle. The immobilisation sits dormant and has no effect on day-to-day driving.
Driver identification. Whenever the vehicle moves, the tracker checks for your card or phone. If it is there, the journey is authorised. If it isn’t, an alert goes to the Secure Control Centre. With D-iD you also receive a push notification each time the vehicle is driven, so one arriving unexpectedly is your first warning.
If something is wrong. The control centre calls you to check the vehicle is safe. Most alerts are a flat card battery or a phone left indoors and take a minute to resolve. If you confirm a theft, the tracking data is used to follow the vehicle and Global Telemetrics’ repatriations team works with the police to locate and secure it.
Remote immobilisation. Once the theft is confirmed and the police have requested it, the control centre sends an immobilisation command over the air. It takes effect when the ignition is switched off, meaning the vehicle cannot be restarted — it is never applied to a moving vehicle. The command can also be lifted remotely once the vehicle is back in safe hands.
Power tampering. Disconnecting the vehicle’s battery does not silence the unit. The internal back-up battery keeps it running and the disconnection itself generates an alert.
Monitoring, App and Subscription
Monitoring
Monitoring is provided by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre in the UK, staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It acts on unauthorised movement, driver detection not present or switched off, battery disconnection, low battery voltage, and a sounding alarm where an aftermarket alarm has been connected to the tracker.
On the S5 Plus the control centre does more than pass on information. Alongside coordinating with the police and the repatriations team, it holds the immobilisation control — which is why immobilisation is only ever applied by trained staff in a genuine theft, and never by you from the app.
App
The free GTE Track app for Apple and Android is paired with a secure online account. Verified functions include:
- Live map — the last recorded location, with normal and satellite views
- Journey history — current and historical journeys through a calendar widget, as a list or on the map
- Vehicle dashboard — current location, last journey details and odometer information
- Geofences — set a virtual boundary and be emailed when the vehicle enters or leaves it
- Notifications — including the D-iD push message each time the vehicle is driven
- Reports — exportable data from your account
- Service mode — mutes alerts for up to ten hours while the vehicle is in a garage or on a transporter
- Multiple vehicles — search or scroll between vehicles on one account, with voltage and last connection shown for each
Subscription
A monitoring subscription is required and is not included in the price of the tracker or the installation. Global Telemetrics sets these rates and you pay them directly, arranged after your installation through the app or web portal. The S5 Plus costs £40 more per year than the standard S5, or £3.50 a month on direct debit — that difference is what buys the immobilisation service. Rates are set by Global Telemetrics and can change. If cover lapses the tracker is no longer monitored, immobilisation is unavailable, and your insurer may treat the vehicle as unprotected. Fixed-term plans need renewing; the duration-of-ownership option does not.
How Nationwide Mobile Installation Works
1. Order Your Tracker
Order the SmarTrack S5 Plus online or call us on 01245 921133. Have your make, model and year to hand so we can confirm the immobilisation circuit is suitable for your vehicle before anything is booked.
2. Arrange Your Installation
A member of our fitting team contacts you to agree a date, time and location. We cover every UK mainland postcode. If you are outside the mainland, check with us before ordering.
3. We Come to Your Vehicle
Our mobile engineer travels to you — at home, at work, or wherever the vehicle is kept. No workshop trip and no day off work.
4. Professional Installation
The tracker is fitted covertly and the immobilisation circuit wired in, then the whole system is commissioned and tested with the control centre to confirm both tracking and immobilisation are responding correctly.
5. Setup and Handover
The engineer helps you set up the GTE Track app and your online account, explains how driver recognition, service mode and the immobilisation process work, and issues your S5 installation certificate for your insurer. Global Telemetrics then contacts you to arrange your subscription.
Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?
Vehicle security is what we do every working day — trackers, alarms, immobilisers and remote start systems. We fit across the SmarTrack range and other leading brands, so we have no reason to talk you into a product that doesn’t fit your situation.
Immobilisation work in particular rewards experience. The circuit has to be integrated properly and tested end-to-end with the control centre, and it isn’t appropriate for every vehicle. We check compatibility before we take your order, not after.
Our engineers come to you anywhere on the UK mainland, we are straight about running costs before you commit, and we will tell you honestly if the standard S5 or the S5+ iMOB is a better match than this one. The app is set up with you on the day rather than emailed as a link, and we answer the phone afterwards. Call 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the SmarTrack S5 Plus
Is the SmarTrack S5 Plus accepted by my insurer?
The S5 Plus is certified to Thatcham Category S5, which is the category insurers refer to when they ask for a tracker with driver identification. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept any particular device, because requirements differ between companies and policies. Check the exact category your insurer has specified before ordering, and call us on 01245 921133 if the wording is unclear.
What is the difference between the SmarTrack S5 and the S5 Plus?
They are the same tracker with the same Thatcham S5 certification, driver recognition, monitoring and app. The Plus adds remote immobilisation, which the Global Telemetrics control room can apply during a confirmed theft at police request. That capability puts the S5 Plus on a higher subscription tier — £199 a year against £159 for the standard S5.
Can I immobilise my own vehicle from the app?
No. Immobilisation on the S5 Plus is controlled by trained staff at the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, and only in a confirmed theft situation at police request. It is deliberately not a button in your app. If you want direct, everyday control over whether the vehicle starts, the S5+ iMOB uses your Bluetooth card instead — speak to us about that option.
Will remote immobilisation stop my car while it is being driven?
No, and it is not designed to. The immobilisation command takes effect once the ignition has been switched off, so the vehicle cannot be restarted. That is what prevents a recovered or abandoned vehicle from being moved again before the police or the repatriations team reach it. It is never applied to a vehicle in motion.
Does the SmarTrack S5 Plus require a subscription?
Yes, and it is charged separately from the purchase price. Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics and paid directly to them, from £17.49 per month by direct debit or £199 for a year, with two-year, three-year and duration-of-ownership options available. Without an active subscription the tracker is not monitored and remote immobilisation is not available.
Does the SmarTrack S5 Plus have a mobile app?
Yes. The free GTE Track app for Apple and Android is included alongside a secure online account, giving you live location on a map, journey history through a calendar view, geofences, a vehicle dashboard with odometer information, notifications, reports and service mode. Our engineer sets it up with you during the installation.
Can the S5 Plus be fitted to any vehicle?
The tracking element suits almost any vehicle, but the immobilisation circuit cannot be fitted to every make and model. Give us your registration or your make, model and year when you enquire and we will confirm before taking your order. If immobilisation isn’t suitable for your vehicle, the standard SmarTrack S5 gives you the same Thatcham S5 tracking at a lower running cost.
Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the SmarTrack S5 Plus?
We offer mobile installation across every UK mainland postcode, at your home, workplace or another agreed location. Our engineer travels to the vehicle, so you do not need to bring it to a workshop. For addresses outside the UK mainland, contact us before ordering so we can confirm coverage.
