SmarTrack S5 iMOB Tracker With Tags – Supplied and Fitted Nationwide
The SmarTrack iMOB — sold by the manufacturer as the SmarTrack 5+ iMOB — is a stolen vehicle tracking system tested to the Thatcham S5 standard, with automatic No Tag, No Start immobilisation built in. Every time you switch off the ignition the vehicle immobilises, and it will only start again when a registered Bluetooth Driver Detection Tag is inside. Combined with 24/7 monitoring from the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre, it is designed to stop relay attack and key cloning theft outright rather than simply track the vehicle afterwards. Safe & Sound Mobile supply the system and fit it at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.
Is the SmarTrack iMOB Right for You?
This system suits owners of vehicles that are actively targeted by organised theft — prestige and performance cars, keyless-entry models, motorhomes, high-specification vans and plant or agricultural machinery. It is also a strong choice for anyone whose insurer has specified a Thatcham S5 category device, or who has been asked to add immobilisation as a condition of cover on a higher-value vehicle.
The important distinction is that a standard S5 tracker will alert the monitoring centre when a vehicle moves without an authorised driver present, but it will not physically prevent the theft. The iMOB does. If a thief relays your key signal from inside your house, the engine still will not turn over without your tag in the cabin. If you want that preventative layer, this is the model to choose.
If you simply need a monitored tracker for insurance purposes on a lower-value vehicle, a Thatcham S7 device such as the SmarTrack Trident S7 is likely to be more appropriate and considerably cheaper. If you would rather carry a credit card–sized driver detection card in a wallet than a keyring tag, ask us about the card variant of the same system instead.

SmarTrack S5 Tracker Category and Insurance Requirements
Thatcham Research classifies aftermarket vehicle security to a set of published standards. The S5 category is the higher of the two stolen vehicle tracking categories and adds a requirement that S7 devices do not have: driver recognition. The system must be able to verify that an authorised driver is present each time the vehicle moves, and raise an alert if not.
That is why insurers tend to specify S5 on vehicles at the highest risk of professional, organised theft — prestige and performance cars, keyless models, expensive motorhomes and commercial vehicles carrying valuable equipment. An S7 tracker will tell the monitoring centre where a vehicle is; an S5 tracker also tells them whether the right person is driving it.
The SmarTrack iMOB has been tested to the Thatcham S5 standard and satisfies the driver recognition element using Bluetooth Driver Detection Tags. It then goes further than a standard S5 device by adding automatic immobilisation: the vehicle is not merely reported as stolen, it is prevented from being driven away in the first place. SmarTrack’s own feature comparison lists the 5+ iMOB as the only device in its range with “No Tag, No Start” immobilisation.
Before you order: tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. Some policies name a specific Thatcham category, some require a particular approved installer, and some ask for an installation certificate. If you are unsure what your insurer has asked for, call us on 01245 921133 and we will help you match the requirement to the right product.
How the SmarTrack iMOB Tracker Works
Installation and setup. Our engineer hard-wires the unit into the vehicle in a concealed position, connects the immobilisation circuit and registers your Driver Detection Tags to that specific vehicle. Only tags paired to your unit will work — a tag from another SmarTrack system will not start your vehicle.
Everyday driving. You keep a tag on your keyring or in your bag. When you get in and switch on the ignition, the tracker scans for the tag, recognises it and releases the immobiliser. There is no code to enter and no button to press — for the authorised driver the system is effectively invisible.
When you switch off. As soon as the ignition goes off, immobilisation re-engages automatically. You do not have to remember to arm it. This is the critical difference from an alarm or a standard tracker: the vehicle sits in a protected state by default every single time you leave it.
If someone attempts to steal it. A thief using a relay attack or a cloned key can unlock the vehicle and turn the ignition, but with no registered tag inside the engine will not start. If the vehicle is moved without ignition — towed, or lifted onto a flatbed — the tracker reports the movement and the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre is alerted.
Monitoring centre response. Control centre staff verify the alert with you. If you confirm the vehicle has been taken, they work with the police using live positioning data to locate it, and Global Telemetrics’ repatriation team assists with recovery across the UK and Europe.
Power and tampering. The unit has an internal backup battery, so cutting the vehicle’s power does not silence it. It also monitors your vehicle’s battery voltage and ignition status, and generates an alert if the battery is disconnected or is running low.
Monitoring, App and Subscription
Monitoring
Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own in-house Secure Control Centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Coverage extends across the UK and Europe, and the device uses a multi-network roaming SIM so it connects to whichever network is strongest wherever the vehicle is.
Alerts the control centre acts on include movement without the ignition being used, driver identification failures, geofence breaches, battery disconnection and anti-tamper events, and low vehicle battery. In each case the team contacts you first to establish whether the vehicle is safe. Where a theft is confirmed, they liaise with local and national police forces and can call on independent repatriation investigators with local knowledge to help recover the vehicle.
App
The free Global Telemetrics app for Apple and Android gives you up-to-date location information for your vehicle at any time. It sits alongside a full secure online account, accessible from any web browser, which is where the more detailed functions live.
Through the online account you can view current and historical locations and journeys, set up multiple geofences with alerts, run and schedule reports, check business and private mileage, view odometer and driving style data, set MoT and service reminders, and add multiple logins with access control. It is genuinely fleet-grade functionality on a single-vehicle product, which makes the iMOB a sensible choice if you also want to keep records rather than just security cover.
Subscription
A subscription is required for the tracking and monitoring service to operate, and it is not included in the purchase price of the device and installation. It is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics once your system is installed and activated, not to Safe & Sound Mobile.
| Subscription Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Direct Debit | £17.49 |
| 1 year | £199.00 |
| 2 years | £329.00 |
| 3 years | £429.00 |
| Duration of vehicle ownership | £749.00 |
Renewal and transfer: fixed-term subscriptions must be renewed at the end of the term for monitoring to continue.
The duration of vehicle ownership option covers you for as long as you own that vehicle from the date of installation. It is transferable once only, within the first 12 months — after that period a new subscription is required. Terms and conditions apply to all subscription options.

Why Choose Safe & Sound Mobile for Tracker Installation?
Safe & Sound Mobile specialise in vehicle security installation, and an immobilising tracker like the iMOB is a job where installation quality genuinely matters — the immobilisation circuit has to be wired correctly and discreetly for the system to do what it is designed to do.
We fit across UK mainland postcodes at your home or workplace, which means no workshop visit and no lost day. We work with multiple leading tracker brands rather than a single manufacturer, so if the iMOB is not the right fit for your vehicle or your policy we will tell you and suggest something that is.
We will also help you understand the Thatcham categories, explain exactly what your subscription covers and what it costs before you commit, set up your app and account on the day, and remain available afterwards if you have questions or need support. Call us on 01245 921133.

Frequently Asked Questions About the SmarTrack iMOB
Is the SmarTrack iMOB accepted by my insurer?
The SmarTrack iMOB has been tested to the Thatcham S5 standard, which is the category insurers most commonly specify for higher-value and higher-risk vehicles. However, tracker requirements vary between insurers, so always check the exact category specified by your insurer before ordering. We cannot guarantee that any particular insurer will accept a given device.
Is installation included with the SmarTrack iMOB?
Yes. The price includes professional installation by a Safe & Sound Mobile engineer, carried out at your home, workplace or another agreed location through our nationwide mobile fitting service across UK mainland postcodes. Activation, account and app setup, a handover demonstration and your installation documentation are all included.
Does the SmarTrack iMOB require a subscription?
Yes. Tracking and 24/7 monitoring only operate with an active subscription, which is paid directly to SmarTrack / Global Telemetrics after installation and is separate from the purchase price. Options are Direct Debit at £17.49, one year at £199, two years at £329, three years at £429, or duration of vehicle ownership at £749.
What tracker category is the SmarTrack iMOB?
It is tested to the Thatcham S5 standard. S5 requires driver recognition as well as stolen vehicle tracking, which the iMOB provides through its Bluetooth Driver Detection Tags. It then adds automatic No Tag, No Start immobilisation, which is not a requirement of the S5 category but a further security layer on top of it.
Does the SmarTrack iMOB have a mobile app?
Yes. The free Global Telemetrics app is available for Apple and Android and shows up-to-date vehicle location. It works alongside a full secure online account offering current and historical journeys, multiple geofences, reports, mileage records, odometer and driving style data, and MoT and service reminders.
Where can Safe & Sound Mobile install the SmarTrack iMOB?
We offer nationwide mobile installation across UK mainland postcodes, fitting at your home, workplace or another suitable agreed location. We also fit at our Chelmsford workshop if you prefer to bring the vehicle to us. Call 01245 921133 to confirm coverage for your postcode.
What happens if I don’t have my Driver Detection Tag with me?
The vehicle will not start. That is the point of the No Tag, No Start system — the immobiliser will only release when a tag registered to your vehicle is detected inside it. For this reason we recommend keeping a spare tag somewhere safe and separate from your keys, and contacting Global Telemetrics support if a tag is lost or damaged.
Can the SmarTrack iMOB be fitted to an electric or hybrid vehicle?
Yes. SmarTrack list the 5+ iMOB as suitable for cars, hybrid and electric vehicles, vans, motorhomes, plant, agricultural machinery and HGVs, and the unit is 12V and 24V compatible. Tell us your vehicle make, model and year when you order and we will confirm compatibility before your installation is booked.

The SmarTrack iMOB is a Thatcham S5 tested tracking system with automatic No Tag, No Start immobilisation, supplied here with Bluetooth Driver Detection Tags. Safe & Sound Mobile supply, fit, activate and set it up at your home or workplace anywhere on the UK mainland.
