Requirements

Thatcham categorises aftermarket vehicle security so insurers have a common
reference point. S7 is the stolen vehicle tracking category. An S7 system must locate the
vehicle, be monitored, and support a recovery process — but it is not required to identify who is driving.

The important characteristics of S7 are continuous monitoring by a secure
control centre, protection against the vehicle being towed or lifted, internal battery backup so the
device survives having the vehicle battery pulled, and a formal police liaison process during a theft. The
SmarTrack unit in this package meets that standard: it is tested to S7, monitored 24 hours a day by Global
Telemetrics, and holds its own backup power.

The step up is S5, which adds automatic driver recognition —
the driver carries a tag or card, and the control centre is notified if the vehicle moves without one.
Insurers typically ask for S5 on higher-value and higher-risk vehicles, and for S7 on standard cars, vans,
caravans and motorhomes. This is a genuine difference in scope, not a difference in quality: an S5 system
flags more theft scenarios than an S7 system does.

It is worth being precise about the other two products. The Ghost 2 is
TASSA verified, which is a separate scheme run by an independent group drawn from police
and security testing backgrounds. It is not a Thatcham category, and it does not substitute for one. Where
an insurer recognises TASSA-verified security, the installation generally needs to be carried out by a
TASSA-registered installer — confirm this with our team when you book. The Thinkware F200 PRO holds no
security certification at all; it is a recording device.

How the Ghost Immobiliser and Tracker Package
Works

Installation. Your engineer fits all three systems in one
visit. The SmarTrack unit is hardwired out of sight, the Ghost 2 is connected to the vehicle’s CAN data
network, and the F200 PRO is mounted behind the rear-view mirror and hardwired so it can keep recording
once the ignition is off.

Everyday driving. You get into the vehicle and enter your
disarm sequence on the factory buttons — or let the paired phone disarm it over Bluetooth — and then drive
normally. The camera starts recording as soon as the vehicle is powered up and loops continuously,
locking any clip where the G-sensor registers an impact. The tracker reports quietly in the background.

Alerts. The SmarTrack device monitors the vehicle’s battery
voltage and ignition status. If the battery is disconnected, the voltage drops away, or the unit is
tampered with, an alert is raised at the Global Telemetrics secure control centre and they contact you to
check the vehicle is safe.

If someone tries to take the vehicle. This is where the two
security systems separate. Even with a cloned, relayed or genuinely stolen key, the Ghost 2 will not let
the engine start until the correct sequence is entered. There is no fob to steal and no radio signal to
intercept, because the Ghost communicates over the vehicle’s own data network rather than transmitting.

If the vehicle is taken anyway. Report the theft to the
police, obtain a crime reference number, and contact Global Telemetrics. The control centre locates the
vehicle and liaises with local and national police forces. Global Telemetrics also works with independent
repatriation investigators internationally, which matters when a vehicle is moved out of the country.

Immobilisation, honestly stated. The immobilisation in this
package is the Ghost 2, and it is local — it prevents the engine starting, at the vehicle. Remote
immobilisation triggered by the control centre is a separate, optional SmarTrack feature available only on
certain S7 models and only if requested before installation. Do not assume this package includes it; ask
us.

Monitoring, App and Subscription

Monitoring

Monitoring is provided by Global Telemetrics, SmarTrack’s own secure control
centre, 24 hours a day across the UK and Europe. It applies to the tracker only — the Ghost 2 and the dash
camera are not monitored by anyone and do not communicate with a control room.

The alerts that reach the control centre are battery disconnection, low
vehicle battery, and tamper. Depending on the S7 model supplied, movement without the ignition being used
and geofence breaches may also be included. When an alert is raised, the control centre contacts you to
establish whether the vehicle is safe. If it isn’t, and you have a crime reference number, they begin the
location and recovery process with the police. An aftermarket alarm can also be wired to the tracker so
that a sounding alarm triggers a call — ask about this before installation, as it depends on vehicle
compatibility.

App

This package involves two separate apps, and they do not talk to each other.

The free Global Telemetrics app for iOS and Android shows the
tracker’s current or last known position, with normal, satellite and hybrid map views, plus ignition
status, voltage and speed. Service mode can be entered from the app to suppress alerts while the vehicle
is being transported or serviced. Whether historical journey data and multiple geofences are available
depends on which S7 model is supplied — Reco and Protector Pro Global do not include historical data.

The Thinkware Dash Cam Link app connects to the F200 PRO over
the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi when you are next to the vehicle. It lets you check the camera’s aim, play back
and download clips to your phone, delete footage and change settings. It is a local connection, so it does
not give you a remote live view from elsewhere. The Autowatch Ghost-II app is a third,
optional app used only for Bluetooth disarm.

Subscription

A subscription is required for the tracker, and monitoring stops when it

Will the Ghost 2 stop my car being taken if
someone has my keys?

The Ghost 2 talks to the ECU over the vehicle’s CAN data network and will not
allow the engine to start until your disarm sequence is entered on the factory buttons. That applies even
if a thief has cloned, relayed or physically taken your key. It emits no radio signal and has no LED or
extra fob, so there is nothing obvious to find or scan for. If you forget your sequence, a unique emergency
code is provided at handover.

Does the dash camera keep recording when the car
is parked?

Yes, because we hardwire it rather than running it from the 12V socket. The
F200 PRO’s parking surveillance modes cover motion and impact detection, time lapse at 2fps for longer
coverage, and an energy-saving mode that sleeps until the G-sensor detects an impact. Super Night Vision
improves low-light footage in parking mode. Note that lane departure and speed camera alerts need the
optional GPS antenna, which is not supplied as standard — ask us if you want it added.
